Dear diary:
After a pretty long hiatus, I decided it was time to get back into the gym. Not the bad routine where I go only once or twice a week and consider other exercises like mowing the lawn or walking around my restaurant as a workout, I'm talking five times a week, running at least a mile a day and hitting a different part of my body every time I go. There's one part of the body for each day I intend on going: chest, arms, back, shoulders and legs, while every now and then mixing abs into the equation.
Now, if you're like me, there are a lot of other, more enticing things than spending ~1 hour in the gym. For example, I could sit around all day playing video games and be totally content with my life. I could sing, research a new hobby, and even theorize a way to create a new species that would in time rule humanity (which I will in turn overthrow, making me famous!) Most days I would rather do all of these things instead of physically exert myself for a tiny portion of the day.
"Tommy, how do you do it? After looking at all those entertaining things, I could hardly imagine you going to the gym! Please enlighten us on how you conquer such demons and make the long trek to where the strong, healthy people reside." Well, I'm glad you asked. I usually try to remember one thing when I go to the gym, which is that every time I finish up I feel good. Not in the sense of my body, that usually hurts for a while. I'm talking about a personal sense of pride. Whenever I go to the gym, I think of it as taking strides to improve myself. Every day I go to the gym, no matter what else happens that day, it is not a day wasted.
Another strong source of motivation; ever heard of look good, feel good? Absolutely 100% true. However be wary; if you compare yourself to another gym goer who looks like Adonis, you're probably not gonna feel so good about yourself (assuming you are not Adonis. If you are Adonis, good for you! You've earned that hot bod, pat yourself on the back(provided you can reach it)) I personally like to compare myself to myself of the past, and knowing that I'm healthier, stronger and faster than I was before really makes me feel good about myself.
So it is with this that I thrust my sword of determination through the heart of laziness, and make a commitment that I will try my absolute best, for as long as I can, to continue overcoming the hordes of laziness that strive to block me from my path to glory.
